Karate for Christ This term we have the privilege of Mr. Eric Swanson teaching the Karate for Christ class. Mr. Swanson has been training for 8 years in Tang Soo Do. He has owned and taught his own school for 6 years. Mr. Swanson is a third degree Black Belt. Karate for Christ is a program through Professional Karate Schools of America. Students will learn the art of Tang Soo Do (this will include techniques in learning sparring, breaking, various instruments such as staffs, nunchuku, etc.) along with memorization of scripture. Devotions will be used in class to understand how Christianity and martial arts can come together. PKSA is a Christian organization committed to teaching Tang Soo Do in such a way that students not only succeed in martial arts but in life. Part of the class cost is for $45.00 for the uniform to be worn in class which consists of shirt, pants and belt. *PKSA uniform MUST be worn at all classes.**Students who have purchased a PKSA uniform in a previous term will not be charged $45.00 unless student is in need of a new uniform.**Students who qualify at the end of term will have the option to test to the next belt level. Qualifying students who choose to test will have an additional fee for testing. At orientation/payment day, students will be measured for size of the uniform which will then be ordered by FETCH through PKSA. All uniforms must be ordered through FETCH and PKSA. Literature Discussion Circle Students MUST be a STRONG Reader, able to read 3-4 chapters on their own each week. We will focus on two short stories this term. They will come together to discuss and respond to what they read through, written quizzes, discussions and activities. Students use their experiences to create meaning, make connections with both written responses & lively group discussions. The class will begin prior to the first day of FETCH, beginning on January 19th and then on Jan. 26th. The first 10 weeks will held off site at the Shiawassee Conservation Club located on M-52. Students will be able to shoot from 1-3 p.m. on those two days. Then on Feb. 2, this class will continue as a 55 minute class each week on 2-2, 2-9, 2-16, 2-23, 3-2, 3-9, 3-16, 4-6. Beginner Crochet Learn how to crochet. All skill levels are welcome to learn how to create a project of their choice. Computer Lab This class is geared toward BEGINNERS or those that need a refresher that are able to work through/read lab materials independently. Labs will cover various topics such as: what's inside a computer, Windows operating system basics (working with files and folders), word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, picture editing, movie maker, Internet skills, buying a computer, hacking, coding, etc. A few challenge labs will be available for those that breeze through the other labs. Topics are subject to change. Checkpoints are built into the labs to make sure you are gaining understanding of each topic. Sewing FUND! In this term, students will learn sewing skills by providing alterations for FETCH members. This provides a wide range of sewing and creative techniques. Pre-Algebra Negative numbers, order of operations, solving for the unknown, and other topics. We will watch the DVD, discuss, and work a few problems. I will ask to see the work they do each week exclusively to see if they are understanding and to know if any topics need to be reviewed. This course will prepare them for most Algebra 1 courses.
